So here's a little bit of fun: a short film that forms part of an ad campaign I've been working on for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
On November 19th, the CBSO launches its latest eBay auction, where the highest bidders get to win an opportunity to conduct the CBSO or play a string instrument within the orchestra. It's a terrific prize and I'm sure there will be loads of budding Rattles as bidders.
I made this film, featuring Andris Nelsons conducting the CBSO and then members of the public doing the same - sort of - on the streets of Birmingham as a teaser.
Do pass it around if you can. Enjoy!

Nice one, reminds me of this rather unreal youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/balitamaji#g/u
More then 600 video's of "air-conducting" :)
(doesn't someone ever visit his shop?)
There is a yearly National championship of "air-conducting" organized by Dutch Radio 4
It even made it to the news:

Talking about a nice promo projects for classical music; the "orkest van het Oosten" (Netherlands Symphony Orchestra) dressed up Bus-stops for Haydn's Creation (de schepping, in Dutch):

And in Utrecht, temporary concert hall Vredenburg Leidsche Rijn wanted to the show that the concert hall is not so far removed from Utrecht as everybody thinks, as Franz Liszt spectaculary shows. There is a nice cameo by pianist Igor Roma :)

Greetings,
Rolf
I really enjoyed the promotional video - it's very well done, and a really innovative idea (both the video and obviously the auction itself that you're publicizing).
I have a couple of questions:
1. what were you displaying on the laptop screen? Was it the same clip from the beginning of the video, or a "podium's eye view" of the orchestra?
How successful has this been as a publicity campaign? I had a look at the eBay site and it looks like there have only been 11 bids so far.
Have you considered changing the format a bit? So rather than people paying to conduct the orchestra, you could instead make it a Youtube audition - where people video themselves conducting, and then you select the winner (like the Youtube orchestra, but funnier)? Obviously that wouldn't generate funds directly, but might get a whole lot more publicity and attention to the concept and the orchestra?
